Belum Adventure Camp and Belum Rainforest Resort, Pulau Banding, Gerik, Perak.

Realising the importance of an education program that sows the importance of the earth’s biodiversity in the younger generation, yet another scientific expedition had been organised from the 22nd - 26th of November 2015 by Green Ranger Malaysia (GRM). The program which has been named Kids for Temengor Expedition (K.I.T.E) 2015 was held at Belum Adventure Camp and Belum Rainforest Resort, Pulau Banding, Gerik, Perak.

The program which had been organised for the second time is an expedition camp at the Temengor forest. The 5-day expedition was saw participation of 100 students and teachers from twenty schools around Malaysia including the state of Labuan. Among others, the program aims to instill the love towards Mother Nature and to recognize the importance of conserving and preserving our forest. In addition, the program aims to encourage students to be curious in all areas. Students and teachers from each school conducted an experiment throughout the program. Among the studies commissioned is the study of insects, study of the quality water cycle, Rafflesia, identifying plants and aquatic fauna, and mammals study (using camera traps).

 

The program was officially launched by Dato' Hj Ahmad Tajudin bin Jab, Deputy Director of Education (Operations), Ministry of Education. Also present were the Director of Co-Curriculum and Arts, Pn. Hjh Rozainum bt Ahmad, Chairman Pulau Banding Foundation and Yayasan Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island, YBhg Prof. Emeritus Dato' Dr Abdul Latif bin Mohamad, CEO of Pulau Banding Foundation, Dato' Dr. Abdul Rashid Bin Abdul Malik, Pn. Hjh Zainon Kasim, GRM committee member, who also represented the GRM founder, Tan Sri Datuk (Dr.) Hj Mustapha Kamal bin Hj Abu Bakar. Dato' Tajudin together with the guest of honor and other GRM Committee members also flagged the participants in a simple, yet lively ceremony.

Dato' Tajudin in his speech had said that even if the approach in the form of fun, but the Green Ranger Malaysia program goals were more focused on the delivery of science, ecology, conservation and bio-diversity and at the same time implement the spirit of teamwork, leadership, social, safety and proficiency in the atmosphere in the external environment. The presence of the scientists who are experts in their field and serve as a mentor during the expedition will be beneficial to the participants KITE this year.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Profesor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Abdul Latiff bin Mohammad, CEO of Pulau Banding Foundation. The students and teachers were presented with certificates for their participation in this year’s event. Prizes were also awarded to the winning teams for the quizzes and games that was held during the camp. Since its inception in 2011, a total of 38 camps Green Ranger Malaysia has implemented and has been received very well by all levels of participants. To date, more than 2,000 participants from over 111 schools and institutions have joined the Green Ranger Malaysia camp. On average the participants had given instructions that the camp was to give knowledge about the environment is very useful to children and young people.
